Neverwinter Nights is an epic tale that took Bioware six years to create. Based on the Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition, Neverwinter Nights is set in the fantasy world of the Forgotten Realms where players have to quest to become skilled warriors and also save the city of Neverwinter from total annihilation.
The peace and sanctity of the Forgotten Realms is threatened by an evil called the Wailing Death. It is up to you, as the hero, to save the denizens from this humongous threat and to achieve your goal, you must unravel the mystery, expose the forces that unleashed this evil and destroy anything that threatens the success of your mission.
Packed with warriors, wizards, monsters and plenty of non-playing characters to interact with, this is one game that all geared up to make D&D, and RPG, fans smack their lips in glee.
In Neverwinter Nights, you create your character based on the 11 character types which include wizards, rogues, fighters, monks. Each character can be assigned it's own set of attributes and skill sets to quest for, to create unique characters. Once you've defined your character, you roam around the lands of the Forgotten Realm, interacting with characters, collect items or engaging in combat with enemies.
The tale is depicted via four chapters that are packed with quests and characters. Complete each quest to grow in stature as a warrior and get closer to your ultimate goal of saving Neverwinter. The gameplay builds in difficulty as you progress and has plenty of secondary quests that can help you improve your overall statistics and gain some valuable experience. The game interface is intuitive and easy to use. To make things plain and simple, you move your character using a simple point and click system.
Neverwinter Nights has it's share of bad guys (…and even worse Boss characters). Hands on combat include melee style assaults using daggers, mace, axes, swords etc. You can also attack from a distance using crossbows, cast magic spells and so on. The game also features henchmen who join in the action. However, they aren't customizable and cannot be equipped with weapons or carry any objects.
With a rich storyline, plenty of role playing action plus the 60+ hours of single player missions, this is one engrossing game that can keep you busy hours at an end. Topping things off is the online multiplayer aspect that allows 64 gamers to participate in one game and enjoy some heavy duty action.
Bioware has implemented top notch graphics in Neverwinter Nights. The land of the Forgotten Realm is a beautiful vista that's packed with interactive characters and menacing enemies. The sound effects and background score can be termed decent.
Neverwinter Nights has a strong base in Dungeons & Dragons and it is packed with plenty of role play action. Plus, when you need to pit your skills against a whole bunch of strangers, you can connect to the Bioware website and engage in multiplayer action. The game is also expandable via mods.
A great game…good buy.
Neverwinter Nights retails at $9.99US at the time of writing.
