Game Description

Ragnarok Online is an anime based MMORPG with a storyline founded on the lines of Norse Mythology.

Ragnarok Online Storyline

In ages past, there was a war between the humans, the demons and the gods. During the war a giant's heart was shattered and its pieces, called Ymir, were famed to be a source of great powers.

Even as peace followed the turmoil, and generations passed uneventfully, there was trouble brewing under the surface. As is normally the case, lessons of the past were conveniently forgotten by the following human generations and all they understood was the great mystical powers of Ymir. The spreading greed of attaining Yamir’s powers is the foundation of the game.

Ragnarok Online Game play

The actual gameplay tends to differ from its legendary background. You basically go through a series of simplified collection style missions, established with the purpose of elevating your character’s persona. There is no elaborate mythical storyline to follow in-game. In fact, once you get into the game, there is hardly a cohesive plot to hold it together.

During the game play, players mainly take part in activities such as party play, trading items, and socializing with each other.

Ragnarok Online - Avatar Creation

Each player starts as a novice. You are required to choose the basic qualities that you would like to see in your character. For instance, if you opt for more brain it will come at the expense of some muscle.

As for the looks, you will be like a typical anime character with fancy hair styles and colors. However, you can also hide and camouflage the things you don’t like and give your character a personal makeover with the stuff you collect during your adventures.

Ragnarok Online Tutorial and Career Advice

Once you have created a character you can either enter the gory world of laughing mushrooms and fungi or you can opt for the tutorial (...which might get a tad sticky if you don't enjoy tests).

You will have plenty of characters to talk to during the tutorial. Later, you will then have to take a test and answer questions related to your little chit chats. With below 80% marks you’ll be required to take the test again.

The bombardment of questions from the NPC will help determine the job best suited for you. As you level, you can draw from a wider range of jobs available. Currently there are 20 jobs to choose from.

Ragnarok Online - Click Combat

Once you are done with customizing your character, you have an array of missions to choose from to keep you busy in the wild.

The challenges of combat are diverse. While the biggest challenge is thrown up to your clicking skills, you have to have hand-eye co-ordination to actually click your enemy to injure him. The virtue of persistence does not go unrewarded either, as you have to repeatedly inflict damage upon your enemy by clicking him until he is dead.

All this clicking might not click with you, but remember, at the end of it all your rewards will include special items dropped by your enemies upon death.

Ragnarok Online PvP

Players looking for a troll bashing game are more than likely to be disappointed with RO, but you can have PvP fights once you have achieved level 31. Here too, the catch is to belong to a good guild that would offer support. Otherwise, it is not hard to get killed in RO against a capable enemy.

Ragnarok Online- Horrors of The Bloodless Beasts

Anyone familiar with the Norse Mythology would tell you about monsters and dragons and fearful beasts. But only Ragnarok Online will give you the inside story on how those monsters never bleed…

However, the dearth of violence means that the game can be deemed a safe experience for younger gamers so that’s one headache spared for the parents.

Ragnarok Online – Social Experience

Here you can impress your neighbors through the display of your collected items. Also, while in-game marriages mean you have taken the social experience to a new level, divorces are not that uncommon either.

The game is a social experience and this makes it more important for the players to choose and customize their character with some thought. There is a massive real life community which is ever active with events everyday and the colorful bazaars and unique items, sold in specific towns, only add to the fun.

Ragnarok Online Graphics

It is the graphics and the sound of the game that distinguish it from other games. The environment is enriched with a 3D background. This fits in very well with the 2D magical avatars, giving a nice blend.

Ragnarok Online Sound

The music played in the background comes from different cultures, including a distinct Korean flavor. However you also have the option to change the repetitive songs with your own personal favorites.

Ragnarok Online – Summing Up

The game is an engaging social experience on the whole. The detailed graphics have the ability to capture the imagination but the absence of a plot means that gamers might lose interest after a while.

Ragnarok Online Cost

The initial download of Ragnarok Online is free. However, there is a monthly subscription fee of $12.00.
