InSacred tells the story of a fantasy world populated by trolls, dragons, ghost and goblins called Arcania. Humans have formed a civilization, built cities but unfortunately Saddar who was banned for his evil deeds summoned a demon called Sakkara. This demon is roaming free to gather armies of undead and taking over the world. On the other hand, the king is dying and his heir has not even tried to improve the situation. Taking advantage of their vulnerability, imps and orcs have reached the city gates wanting to assault the human territories.
Like all RPG games you can choose from 6 different classes: Seraphim, Wood Elf, Dark Elf, Gladiator, Battle Mage and Vampires, 3 males and 3 females for each class. All classes are unique, however, they have some tactics in common and each character has their own style. For example the Wood Elf prefers melee attack while the Dark Elf is an assassin; the Battle Mage prefers destructive spells while the Gladiator uses close combat.
Starting is simple; pick your character, type your name and you start the game. There are no stats to distribute in the beginning because each character has a different entrance in the game.
Fight and make your way through to enter the village because you need to acquire levels quickly to improve your stats and learn new skills. Level gains are fast, there are 200 sub-quests that are very easy but very useful for experience.
Like all RPGs you gain experience by killing monsters and you will improve your character stats every new level by choosing some of them yourself. Be careful though, not balancing the stat point properly can become a problem later on.
An interesting fact is that there is no skill tree involved in this game. Consequently, you cant choose a ‘wrong skill’ that often forces gamers to start over againto get things right. You are givena freehand in Sacred, and you can decide what type of skill you want and how powerful or quick you want it to be.
On the while, Sacred is an RPG inspired by Diablo and some people might actually like it better because of the better playability it boasts:
Traveling long distance is made using a portal or you can use a horse to ride faster, flee from battle. The world is completely open and you can go wherever you want from the beginning of the game. Horses have stats like the characters but they can easily be killed so they are not very good in combat.
The graphics are a combination with 2d background and 3d characters. 3 levels of zoom are also provided which, unfortunately these are not very well implemented as the game experiences some definite lag once its on the maximum zoom out mode. Characters are very well created and the movies are done with a good combo of animation and cinematics.
Music helps creating a good atmosphere and the characters have voices dubbed by German actors. The 154 music clips are original and the similarity with new age bands like Dead can Dance and Trial of the Bow does well to complement the game’s atmosphere.
In multiplayer you can cooperate with your friends to save the world; you can play through LAN or via Internet on an interface that is similar to battle.net. Lag is medium and you’ll enjoy yourself if you can put up with it.. The game can be played with up to 16 people on PvP mode and up to 4 people on campaign mode.
The game currently retails for 9.97$
