Game Description

Albion is a land of deep black forests and high mountains. You start as a boy trying to raise enough money to buy your sister her birthday gift. However, the fun turns sour even before the birthday and things take the ever-so-popular revenge tinge. From a small town boy to a member of the Hero’s Guild to the final revenge, Fable has the ability to suck you into the game and turn a simple 12-15 hour experience into an addiction that can last much longer.

Fable Gameplay

As with most Peter Molenoux games, Fable is not your run of the mill RPG; it acts more like an adventure game with a touches of RPG elements and a thorough character development along the way. Many weapons and many spells contribute to its detailed structure, making Fable one of the best RPGs ever (even if it didn’t live up to the hype Molenoux managed to stir up).

The story keeps you motivated while you train your character because the primary thing is to become the greatest hero of the land. Not like a traditional RPG where you are supposed to be morally correct in any case, this game allows you to decide if you want to be good or evil and gives you a lot of freedom. Also you gain reputation and your character will shape depending on the decisions you make.

The controls are very easy to learn because Fable has practically the same controls as many adventure game. The experience feature is different, as you only have three skills to concentrate on: will, skill and strength. If you want to cast spell you will have to give more importance to your will but if you want to be more like a gladiator, you will need to fight your enemies with weapons and strength. As you kill the enemies experience orbs will appear, you need to collect them in order to gain levels and visit the guild.

63 weapons exist in the game, which are separated into: melee weapons and ranged weapons. This is not much but you can enhance them through their open slots with augmentation jewels (a total of 8).

The spells depend on your decision to be good or evil because an evil sorcerer cannot achieve the highest rank of a healing spell however he can master a destructive spell. There are 3 categories of spells: attack (fireball and lighting), surround (slow time, slow enemies) and physical spells (heal, berserk and bless)

Armor is also important because other characters in the game react depending on how you are dressed. It not only affects armor rating but also charisma, how much respect you gain from people and it can change you from bad to good or vice versa.

Fable Graphics

The game looks good on any console but where in the world will you find villages where everyone is dressed the same. The enemies are, similarly, lack detail and look stereotyped. If anything, the same can be said for the women depicted in the game so there is no gender bias attached here.

In contrast, the hero’s look is very different. While most villagers seem to have the same tailor and cloth merchant, your character will have a 100 clothing items and his appearance will change depending on the choices you make. Getting fat, gaining scars as souvenirs from battles and aging faster if you get poisoned are just a few ways your character will change his appearance.

The game also compensates for the lack of variety in the NPC characters with the beautiful background; you can stay for hours to stare at the beautiful places the land has and also the light and shadow effects are amazing…however, we’d advise getting on with the game.

Fable Sound

Sound is special and the variety almost shocks you. It changes from location to location; it also gives you a complete feeling of what is supposed to be happening in the game. The tracks are mostly inspired by the main theme of the game and they sound great.

Although the music is grand, the voices of various characters are pretty much the same, to the extent that sometimes different characters have the same voices. Even while we can accept the lack of variety in clothing, the idea that so many people have the same ‘sound boxes’ does bother you when you are trying to lose yourself in the game…after all, we waited 4 years for this.

Fable 2 cent

It took the producers 4 years to make Fable, which is a long wait in itself. However, the true were rewarded when it eventually came out. Now we have the most original RPG around with a unique character development feature

. The downside is that with so much attention on the protagonist, the other characters were badly neglected…even so much as to make them look as sound the same. While it does reduce the immersive value of the game, Fable is still worth the wait. Don’t miss it.

Fable Cost

The game currently retails for 19.99$ US for the Xbox and 28.98$ US for PC.
