Game Description

You are put into the role of Hugh Hefner and you have to control the wonderful paradise of all the men in the world: the Playboy Mansion. It may seem an easy job, but rest assured, fulfilling those beautiful playmate’s wishes isn’t easy. Playboy: The Mansion looks and acts very much as Sims: dialog, movement, buying, housing, gameplay, everything is very Sims like but the difference is that how you get to have fun with very hot chicks. The game looks to cash I on the male audience whereas Sims was considered more for women.

Playboy: The Mansion Gameplay

If you played Sims you can’t possibly fail in learning the controls of Playboy: The Mansion; everything is simple except the scrolling part which sometime can be very frustrating as you can’t directly control the screen and your movement will be annoying. Other than that the whole movements is good. Interacting with other characters is by using bubbles like in the Sims where you choose what to do next. .

The whole game is about making the Playboy Magazine known and becoming popular through your parties. First you have just some friend and a few people but once you start being known you will hire new staff and buy fancy furniture to make your guests happy.

There are two play modes: campaign mode and free mode; in the campaign mode you will be given certain goals to achieve to promote your magazine and your mansion while in the free mode everything will be without limits and the goals will be set by you. So what does one who owns a house full of hot playmates do? Throws parties, takes photos of naked women, interacts with them, discusses business matters with important people and has sex. Yeah, you get to have sex with them but don’t expect of anything spectacular because they will still have their lingerie on. If you want to try new positions you have to buy new furniture as the positions chance on different pieces of furniture however it’s pretty boring and people who expect great scenes shouldn’t because this game isn’t a porn movie. It’s about selling the magazine! But who cares about that anyway? 90% of the people who will play this game will be playing it because it involves nude hot girls and real playmates. .

There are some neat features and you learn the history of Playboy magazine and also you get to see some photos from the early years however other than that and a few unlockable characters nothing is of very much importance. Overall gameplay is too repetitive and players will get bored within a few hours of playing so don’t expect too much variety.

Playboy: The Mansion Sound

As “The Sims” the people in this game will talk in Simlish - a strange language made out of bubbling and bad spelling so you will feel sick of all those Sims like features of this game. The music varies and this is good because it really covers all the genres out there: jazz, pop, rock, hip hop, flamenco, industrial, etc. The producers did a good job with the music but after playing Sims a lot, you’ll easily tire of hearing those characters mumbling.

There are some nice old interviews with celebrities back when Playboy appeared and that’s pretty cool for people who want to see the impact this magazine had on people those days.

Playboy: The Mansion Graphics

The girls look nice but the similarity between them makes you lose interest pretty quickly. If one makes a game about beautiful girls posing people expect DIFFERENT girls posing not girls that look almost the same. Sure, you can choose different color tone and different hair but does it matter when they practically have the same face and body? The camera control I told you earlier about is terrible and very frustrating but at least the zooming is good. Overall graphics look like the Sims and people who played Sims 2 can imagine now how this game looks.

Playboy: The Mansion Overall

They just wanted to make a good game with chicks that sells but didn’t focus on anything that matters such as small details and the “boring meter” which goes up when you have to do the same actions 100 times per hour. Playboy: The Mansion is nice but the real thing that makes a difference between this game and the Sims is sex, which is not the game’s strong point either. Fans of Sims will know where each feature comes from, and it’s a passable effort with the best part being the business aspect of the game.

Playboy: The Mansion Pricing

The game currently retails for $14.97.
