Game Description

Like every Metal Gear game Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of the best action game of its time. The game takes place in a jungle, meaning Snake is going to have to fight for survival against the natural elements and the enemy soldiers. The plot of this game takes place in the 60s where Snake has been deployed in a Russian jungle and has to defuse a nuclear threat.

From there on the story becomes a lot more complicated introducing new characters, including a group of militants that call themselves the Cobras, Colonel Volgin and a young Ocelot (yes Ocelot). The game takes a slow start including a lot of cut scenes, which contribute greatly in explaining the storyline but never get boring. The cut scenes are designed quite exquisitely giving the game a great cinematic experience. Since this game is a prequel to the metal gear series, Snake is also different in many ways but why ruin the fun when you can find out yourself.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Gameplay

MGS 3 has a good 24 hours of exciting game play that will most likely hypnotize you. The first time playing this game you will find yourself rushing through the objectives as quickly as possible just to watch the next cut scene and discover how the story unravels. The second time around you will pay much more attention to the details like stealth, disguise, food and basically all the elements involved in Snakes survival.

This game features a lot of new elements because of the drastic change in the plot. You have to disguise your self to camouflage with the environment and prevent your enemies from spotting you.

Due to the lack of readily cooked rations in the jungle Snake has to hunt and cook the food before eating it. Additional to that Snake also gets hungry faster given the amount of load he is carrying; he can store food in his backpack raw or cooked along with some other necessary equipment…like guns.

The game makes a very realistic situation as food goes bad if you don’t play the game for a day or two but on the contrary you can also carry an unbelievably large amount of food in one measly little backpack. Snake can also recover from injuries like mending broken bones and healing over a period of time.

Best of all you don’t have to stay on track with this game, meaning, you can find a lot of other things to do rather than just pursue your mission objective. You can shoot a beehive directly over an enemy or catch poisonous snakes and throw them on unsuspecting enemies. The environment is also very well worked on; Snake’s footsteps can be heard so you have a stealth mode for stalking your enemies.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Characters

The characters in this game are very well defined giving them each their own unique personality (except for the Cobras who you can never recognize until fighting them). Each boss character has their own attributes that make defeating them different and more challenging.

The cut scenes define the boss characters extremely well with great attention paid to their facial expressions and their movements. Some of the most influential characters of the game are; a lady named the Boss who was responsible for training snake in the close quarters combat and the Russian Ocelot who is one of the best marksmen in the game and already seems to have a rivalry with snake.

Since Metal Gear Solid 3 is a game concentrating on the boss characters, their personalities are very well worked out. The voice acting in the game is also very good and defines the characters very well. In case you need help, you will also be in contact with Major Zero your commanding officer whose dialogues sound somewhat cliché from the past two Metal Gear Solid games.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Game Modes

There are two game modes in Metal Gear Solid 3. In the original game mode Snake has to rescue a Russian weapons expert from a group of militants called the Cobras. Since it is a Metal Gear game, you can expect twists in the plot just as surely as you can expect the Sun to rise. In here you must trust all your survival instincts in order to stay alive. This game mode offers a good 24 hours of game play with endless replay value (since there are a lot of ways to accomplish a task).

The other game mode is the Snake vs. Monkey game which acts as a bit of a training mode for the controls of the game. Here snake is in the same jungle and has to use a stun gun, stun grenades and infrared goggles to catch monkeys. At first you stun the monkey then you run up to it and Snake will say ‘gotcha’ in order to confirm that you have caught the monkey. As you proceed in this game mode the difficulty gets harder and monkeys also hide better. The challenge here is to catch all the monkeys in the least possible time taken.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Controls

The controls are quite simple. There haven’t been a lot of changes in the controls from the last MGS release except for some minor ones which can be adapted to very easily once you start playing the game.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Audio

Metal Gear Solid 3 offers great audio with music that meshes well with the game play. The voice acting is simply high end stuff. It makes MGS 3 seem more like a movie rather than a game.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Graphics and Camera

The graphics are an OK, offering various detailed environments but unfortunately the camera angles are a huge disappointment. MGS 3 offer a third person camera view that doesn’t quite live up to the expectations.

A lot of times you will have problems due to the camera and will feel frustrated because the camera view is pathetic if you want a clear understanding of your surroundings. The only visible con of this game would be the camera.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater – 2 cent

Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of the best games in its genre. With hours of interesting gameplay, and cut scenes that will leave you asking for more, the characters have an exceptional depth giving them their own unique personality. The pros definitely rule out the bad camera views. If you are a Metal Gear fan then without any doubt you will love this game. Even for those not familiar with the Metal Gear franchise this game is definitely worth owning.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Cost

Metal Gear Solid 3 currently retails at $29.99
