Game Description

If you are looking for a fun game --plain and simple-- World Tour Soccer is an appropriate choice. While a game with some flaws here and there, and not the most realistic fare on the simulation market today, WTS is entertaining and engaging all the same.

World Tour Soccer Gameplay

Unlike some similar computer games, World Tour Soccer does not include a so-called career mode within its operations. Therefore, you really are not able to develop significant backgrounds for your players. However, this is well offset by the other options, including exhibition games, mixing and matching different players, cup competitions and other such availabilities.

Overall, the players tend to perform decently in different matches and cup competitions that you will be able to engage in. There are some glitches in the system, which result in the players making some strange mistakes on the playing field. However, for the most part, the players perform as directed by the gamer at the controls. The opposition AI does a pretty decent job of emulating their real world counterparts.

As you go about controlling your own player while engaged in a match or tournament during World Tour Soccer, you need to be thoughtful and foresighted. Quite like soccer in the brick and mortar world, you need to have keep an eye on the ball and the other one on those around you. This can, however, make you end up being cross-eyed so you can also opt to make do with thinking at least a play ahead all the time.

One of the interesting features is that you have the ability to choose from six different “playing styles” for your time. This adds an interesting variation to World Tour Soccer and makes the replay value associated with World Tour Soccer high.

Indeed, it can take some time to integrate and master one of the different team playing styles before you will even consider moving onward to trying a different playing style. In time, you likely will find a playing style that best matches your own abilities and personal playing style.

If you are successful throughout your playing time with World Tour Soccer, particularly if you are victorious in any one of the seven different cup tournament competitions, you will have the ability to formulate a so-called “super team.”

The game is also sprinkled with teams from the “real world,” including some legendary teams from days gone by such as Real Madrid from the 1950s, the Celtics and England from the 1960s, and New York for the 1970s. In addition, all of the major soccer teams from around the world are part of World Tour Soccer.

World Tour Soccer Visuals and Graphics

The visuals and graphics are well done. One of the highlights of the graphics and visuals is their sense of realism. The only real drawback centers on the frame rate during a multi-player match.

The backgrounds that have been created for World Tour Soccer are interesting and rather intricate. Specifically, the different stadium venues are smartly crafted and well designed.

World Tour Soccer Sound Quality

The “special effects” associated with World Tour Soccer are believable and fit nicely with the visuals and graphics. While nothing original can be found in the soundtrack itself, the soundtrack is decently presented and includes music that fits with the whole theme of World Tour Soccer.

World Tour Soccer Summary

On balance World Tour Soccer is a solid game. If you like sports simulation fare, you will be pleased with this investment. The game is challenging and provides enough different variations -- in fact, a virtually innumerable number of combinations -- making the replay value of the game very high.

World Tour Soccer Price

The game retails for $29.99US, at the time of this review
