Crazy Taxi 3 is a wild and enjoyable ride. Simplistically overviewed, Crazy Taxi 3 allows a player to go on a fantastic and wildly paced race through one of three different cities, picking up and depositing interesting and unique fares all along the way.
While there are some interesting features that the game has to offer, the game is largely disappointing because of its lack of innovative gameplay. Meaning, if you have played Crazy Taxi 2 you have already seen half of Crazy Taxi 3. The game takes the old gameplay and revamps a couple of old cit maps (while adding a new one) and comes in to rake the cash associated with the franchise.
Experienced gamers, who have been around the proverbial electronic block a few times, will recognize Crazy Taxi as being a spin off from the very popular Dreamcast. Indeed, the controls and general gaming schemes utilized in Crazy Taxi 3 are similar to what has been found in the Dreamcast series previously.
Your goal, as the Crazy Taxi 3 driver, is to get to the final destination as quickly as possible -- and by any means possible…including going great distances sliding on the side of the car. Because of the means and ends of this exciting game, you have the chance to engage in a wide array of different, strange and unique maneuvers as you head through the streets, down sidewalks (…or the through buildings) of one of the three metro-plexes featured in the game. The new cities are introduced in this game add some interesting venues that insert a dash of suspense and entertainment to the game.
Indeed, there are four new cabbies and four new cars introduced to the gamer this time out. You start by choosing a cabbie and a car for your driving spree.
The fares that you will pick up as you speed from destination to destination are unique beings to be sure and they add humor and a sense of bemusement to the overall game playing scheme. The idea is to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible, so memorizing the shortcuts always comes in handy.
Crazy Taxi 3 is a game well suited to all types of gamers in its concept. While there is nothing particularly earth shattering about the graphics, a person with no prior experience with the Crazy Taxi games might be bowled over by the visual aspects of the game.
However, if you have experience of the Crazy Taxi series, you might find the graphics and visuals to be bit of a disappointment. Indeed, the graphics and visuals represented in Crazy Taxi 3 are not as solidly crafted as the preceding versions of the game.
On the plus side, there is no hesitation in the functioning of the visual elements of the game. Once initiated, the game speeds ahead at a fantastic pace without any blips or graphic interruptions whatsoever.
While the visuals and graphics may come up a little short in the minds of some more experienced gamers, the sound effects are superb -- a well done follow up to what has come before in the series. Having said that, the soundtrack isn't anything to write home about...its funky to say the least.
The special sound effects used in Crazy Taxi 3 are tightly crafted and they lend an element of realism and believability to the high paced high jinx that is the hallmark of this ride. For example, the manner in which the voices echo in tunnels is an interesting effect that adds something remarkable to the overall game itself. In fact, on some levels the well done audio aspect of the game even helps to make up for a few of the some of the shortcomings found in the visual element of the production.
Despite some apparent redundancy in the graphics department, Crazy Taxi 3 is an entertaining and engaging ride for the most part. Fast paced and challenging, the game boasts a high replay value and you will be able to enjoy yourself with the challenges of Crazy Taxi 3 on multiple occasions.
The game should appeal to newcomers to the series, as most of the veteran fans would feel let down by the repetition of the same old formula. All in all, its Crazy... but its worth the money.
Crazy Taxi for Xbox currently retails for $12.99US at the time of writing.
