Game Description

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 brings edge-of-the-seat extreme sport action to the Xbox. Strap on the knee pads. Secure your helmet. Hop on. Start pedaling and defy gravity. With over 1500 tricks and signature moves that you can perform (without breaking your bones), this game promises a unique and exciting gaming experience.

As a gamer, you get to control professional BMX riders like Ryan Nyquist and Dave Mirra or riders that can be created from scratch. Take on challenges and exhibit your skills at various parks and against different opponents. Progress through the hierarchy and defeat every opponent to earn a shot at Dave Mirra's crown and reach the very top of the BMX heap.

Customization is key in Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2. In this release, you can create your own riders (or ride as one of the 14 pros), choose your own sponsors, and even design your own parks in which to complete a variety of challenges. As you progress through the game, your achievements will earn you respect from your fellow riders. Pedal and power your way to the top stand tall as the king of the BMX mountain.

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 Gameplay

Navigating your bikes through an intricate course performing death defying stunts and shaking off all challengers is the essence of this game.

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 Venues

With a wide range of parks to choose from and also a handy park editing feature, you get an opportunity to test your biking skills on a variety of terrains and against many challengers. Designing a park is a time consuming chore but it's fun. As you progress, you can unlock new parks and also get access to newer bikes.

The four gaming modes offer good value in terms of action. In ProQuest mode you power one of the 14 professional BMX bikers that the game packs and accomplish a series of missions. Starting off as a novice biker you slowly gain respect from your peers and fans and garner a good sponsorship deal that will help you progress.

The other modes are Free Ride which lets you ride anywhere you please and perform stunts without being constricted by the 3 minute timer. If you need to improve your score while practicing your tricks, you can play in Session mode where the 3 minute timer and score box come into play.

Finally, there's a versatile Multiplayer mode that lets you pit your skills against a friend and also online players. The two player option is turn based.

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 Controls

Controlling your biker and bike isn't a difficult task... mastering it is another matter though. The controls are mapped in a convenient way and you can perform stunts with a combination of the X button and the stick. The game exhibits a lot of flaws while executing stunts as a lot of clipping occurs which translates to poor collision detection.

In some game modes, this can hinder your progress as items that you are supposed to collect are impossible to pick up. Still you can do a lot of things such as grinds on fences, guard rails, slides and virtually anywhere you have access to. The possibilities are endless.

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 Graphics

This game is above average in the graphics department and there's significant amount of detailing in the bikes, riders and parks. The game makes good use of the Xbox's power to render some smooth graphics which are only marred by occasional glitches. Level designs are also very well thought out and feature decent textures and lighting.

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 Sound

Sound Effects aren't top notch and are also minimal. The soundtrack comprises of some heavy duty rock and metal tracks rendered by known bands like Rage Against The Machine, Godsmack, Sublime and the incomparable Ozzy Osbourne.

Having said that, the audio sets well with the overall aggression that extreme sports brings to the table. You can also plug in your own music if none of the available tracks catch your fancy…a handy feature for those who are weaned on softer music.

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 Summing Up

The game explores one of the flourishing extreme sports, which in real life is only the sport of daredevils with reflexes and that gift to defy gravity. For the more conservative, it's fun to be able to experience an adrenaline rush, even if it's a virtual one.

Definitely worth a shot.
